WHITWELL & REEPHAM STATION STEAM RALLY

After last year's success Whitwell and Reepham Railway has decided to go ahead with this years rally on the 1st and 2nd August this year.

The attractions include: Full size and miniature traction engines, trade and craft stalls, beer festival (10:00 am - 10:00 pm), commercials, vintage and classic cars, tractors and stationary engines, unlimited train rides throughout the day, and a model railway. Refreshments available.

Admission: £6.00 Adult £2.50 Child £15.00 Family Ticket

We are a charity trying to raise money to build up our heritage railway as a a local attraction and a place for community groups to meet. We already have several local groups which use the venue on a regular basis.

2015 DEREHAM TREASURE HUNT

STOKESBY VILLAGE FETE

If any of the above mean something to you then here’s your chance to have a whole weekend (well 24 hours) playing them and a whole bunch of other games as well! Even if you don’t know what we’re on about then you’re welcome to come along and learn how to play!

Norwich based charity The base are holding ‘Dicing with Boardom 2015’ (a 24 HOUR Boardgames-A-Thon) with loads of favourites to play as well as some less well known games, and you can of course bring along any games you love to play. In fact we’re actively encouraging everyone taking part to bring their own games along to play with us as we love finding new games!

We’ve even got great prizes to give away throughout the day…and night….thanks to The Games Room (Elm Hill) and MANTIC Games who have kindly agreed to give us games to give away and to play, as well as sending us one of their pathfinders to demo some games.

Places cost £20 for 24 hours and include a Fish and Chip supper on Saturday Evening and a Bacon Roll for breakfast on the Sunday, £11 for 12 hours with either Fish and Chips OR Bacon Roll (depending when you play) or £6 for a drop in session (up to 6 hours – no food!). If you have specific dietary requirements then we can cater for that too – just let us know.

ARTS FESTIVAL

A charity event to raise much needed money for the beautiful Grade 1 listed church.

The festival is entitled 'Creations - a Kaleidoscope of Arts'. There will be free entry and ample free parking. Refreshments available all day, each day: light lunches, teas, coffees and of course delicious homemade cakes.

Internationally acclaimed ceramicist Ruthanne Tudball will be displaying, alongside Bridget Heriz whose glorious sculptures will include 'Great Mother', a mother and son sculpted from balsa wood and wire especially with St Mary's Church in mind.

Dereham Photographic Club will be exhibiting their members evocative work, and 4 artists - Marie Louise Bacon, Zelda Eady, Judi Graham and Jane Ironside will all be showing their varied, beautiful works within the church. Many of the artists will have items for sale, and a percentage of these sales will also be donated to our charity.

There's also a 'Grand Art Raffle' of works generously donated by the exhibitors, with first prize being a glorious watercolour 'Dreaming (Anemones)' given by an Avril Blanshard, a name synonymous with a style of vibrant, colourful, loose painting.

On Saturday 12th evening the 'West End Waiters' are performing in the church. It promises to be an evening of music and laughter with their unique blend of humour, songs and monologues.

Tickets on the door will be £7.50 which includes a glass of wine and nibbles.

THURLTON SCARECROW FESTIVAL

Beginning at Thurlton Village Hall, Thurlton, NR14 6RJ

This is being organised by the Women’s Institute to celebrate their group being 95 years old. At the Village Hall you will collect your map (costing £1.00) of all the scarecrows which are being displayed around the village and our adjoining village of Norton Subcourse. There will be treasure hunt, at the location of the scarecrow, there may also be an event such as a craft stall or garage sale etc organised by the household/business. Back at the village hall, there will be a raffle, tomola, craft and produce stalls together with refreshments being served.

There will also be on display village archives including minutes from the first WI Meeting held at Raveningham Hall in June 1920, photographs and displays from the last 100 years to tie in with our theme of the Festival, 100 years of Village Life. The local bell ringing society will also be giving a demonstration. There is plenty of free parking at the Village Hall, Bowls Club and Norton Chapel.
