Head teacher guilty of abusing boys in Norfolk
A headteacher has been found guilty of sexually abusing and beating pupils at a Norfolk school.
Derek Slade worked at St George's School in Wicklewood in Norfolk, which later moved to Great Finborough in Suffolk.
The 61 year old has no teaching qualifications and set up the school with colleagues.
The attacks took place between 1978 and 1983.

More kids excluded from Norfolk schools
New figures show more pupils in Norfolk are being excluded from school.
The numbers are up by more than 550 over the past year.
Nearly five thousand three hundred youngsters were banned from the classroom.
The council's education bosses say less than 100 students were permenantly excluded.

A special amnesty for hazardous household waste is being held in Norfolk this weekend.
You can safely get rid of things like chemicals, cleaners, pesticides and fertilisers at Ketteringham Recycling Centre all weekend.
But fireworks, ammunition and asbestos can't be taken.
Norfolk County Council is holding a special amnesty event at Ketteringham, Station Road (NR9 3AZ) this weekend (Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September) between 8am and 6pm.

Plans move on for a hostel in Norwich
Plans for a backpacker’s hostel in Norwich have moved a step closer.
A planning application has been submitted to turn the old ferry boat pub on Kings Street into a place for travelers to stay.
The developers say the business would create up to 40 new jobs.

2 fires are started in the city
Police are investigating after 2 cases of arson in West Pottergate in the city.
Fires were started in the communal area block, and rubbish and bikes were also set alight.
They happened last Friday and on Monday.
Police have stepped up patrols in the area.

Energy survey could save you money
People living in Rackheath can find out if they could save money by becoming more energy efficient.
All you have to do is take part in a survey being organised by Broadland District Council.
To find out if your home is in the qualifying area and for more details, contact the Energy Team on 01603 430627, contact energy@broadland.gov.uk.

RBS staff in Norwich could lose their jobs
Jobs at RBS in Norwich are at risk.
The bank's announced it's cutting another 3500 jobs.
It's already slashed its global workforce by 23,000 since the financial crisis started – 18,000 of them in the UK.
Service centre staff, IT and other support functions in 12 locations across the country - including our city - will be affected.

Last ditch attempt to save Connexions
There's another last ditch attempt to save the Connexions service in Norfolk.
The council currently plans to cut funding to the youth advice service which could result in 65 job losses.
Lib Dems at county hall and Norwich South MP Simon Wright and North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb say the authority could use money from their reserves to fund the service.

Plane crashes off the coast of Suffolk
Two people have been taken to hospital- after a light aircraft crash-landed off the Suffolk coast.
The plane came down last night three miles from the Orford Ness lighthouse near Aldeburgh.
It's reported it was on its way from Germany to Norfolk when it suffered engine failure.
Coastguards were alerted by Mayday calls from the aircraft- and rescued two people, who reportedly haven't been seriously injured.

Local train worker sacked
A rail worker's been sacked after failing to inspect level crossings across Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.
Network Rail tell me a total of 9 crossings weren't checked but over the last 9 months around 700 of the 1 thousand crossings here have been inspected
It comes a few weeks after a tanker and train collided at an unmanned level crossing in Suffolk.

They're holding "Get Yourself Sorted" days tomorrow and on Saturday for people to find out more.
You can get one to one advice, find out more about the courses, and talk to members of staff.
While some courses are now fully subscribed, there are still places across all of the Schools within the college, spanning Business and Computing, Creative Arts, Foundation Studies, Hair and Beauty Therapy Industries, Health, Social Care and Early Education, the Hotel School, Lifelong Learning, Technology and Sport and the college's Sixth Form Centre.

Hundred of children in Norfolk will be going back to school later this month to academies.
Four new ones are opening in our county- including Ormiston Victory Academy- which replaces Costessey High.
The government has signing funding agreements ensuring they will all open on time.

Chris Martin charged
Norwich City has confirmed Chris Martin's been arrested and charged with common assault.
The club's released an official statement about the incident which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.
They say it'd be inappropriate to comment further - and Chris's solicitors are now dealing with it.

Underage cigarette sales in Norfolk
Too many children are using cigarette machines in pubs and clubs in Norfolk.
Norfolk's trading standards did test purchases at 15 venues in the county - 14 of them sold tobacco to underage children.
The government's thinking of banning the machines to stop the illegal sales.

NHS dentists still free
Over 434,000 people have seen an NHS dentist in NHS Norfolk over the last 2 years.
New stats show that's a rise of over 10,000 on last years.
But health bosses are reminding people to still take advantage of dentists offering to take on new NHS patients.
NHS Norfolk’s website features a regularly updated map of the county which shows all local dentists in each postcode area with appointment availability.

There's a danger the poppy appeal might not be able to go ahead in Attleborough this year.
The organiser has to retire - so the fundraiser's appealing for someone to come forward and take it on.
Without the Poppy Appeal the Royal British Legion can't help thousands of ex-service personal with emotional and welfare support.

Council bosses say they've been forced to make major cuts after the government withdrew grants.

Prolific burglar jailed
A man from Lithuania has been jailed for over 90 burglaries in Norfolk,
Suffolk and Essex.
Edmundas Tamosauskas was caught by police after his fingerprint was found in
a stolen car found dumped in Yarmouth.
Norwich Crown Court sentenced the 26 year old to 7 and a half years in jail for his part in a gang, which was responsible for breaking into homes at night while residents were sleeping, to steal property and cars to ship to Lithuania.
The team targeted homes in Norwich, Gorleston and Downham, as well as villages including in Hethersett, Coltishall, Upwell, Outwell, Martham, Ormesby and Rollesby.
The crime wave led to a spike in recorded burglaries in the county.
Elsewhere, they were behind similar crimes in Carlton Coleville, Suffolk and Braintree in Essex.
